How To Be More Creative

A light bulb represents creativity—what else!

Last week I had the privilege of presenting on the topic of creativity at the Intranets2013 conference in Sydney, and delivering some workshops on how to incorporate sketching into your user experience process.

Intranets are fast becoming a crucial business tool for medium and large organisations, with their own unique challenges, both technical and at the organisational level. The Step Two Designs folks behind the conference did a fantastic job, and it was a real honour to be invited to speak. Check out some of the other presentations, which are starting to appear online.

I’ve included the slides from my talk below. They didn’t make a lot of sense on their own, and the session wasn’t recorded, so I’ve re-recorded an audio track to go with them.

In addition to my presentation, I ran a full day workshop after the conference, which was great fun, and received some very flattering feedback from some of the attendees (there are few things in this world as rewarding as seeing a student you’ve taught understand, apply and evangelise something you’ve taught them!).

This was really encouraging for me personally, and has motivated us to take this format and make it available in a digital form in some capacity. Watch this space for more news on that!

I’d love to hear what techniques you use to be more creative, either in the workplace or on a personal level. Share them in the comments!
