These terms of reference are a statement of UX Mastery’s scope and objectives. It provides a preliminary delineation of our roles and responsibilities, outlines of our project objectives, identifies the main stakeholders, and defines the authority of our leadership. It is signed by the owners, employees and financial partners of UX Mastery.
We will:
- Inform professional discourse with knowledge-based writing that is responsible, ethical and supported by evidence.
- Unlock the knowledge of experienced practitioners to provide the commercial design industry with clarity and insights into how design impacts our society.
- Create an open site for people around the world to share best practices and collaborate on developing smart, sustainable solutions.
- Provide a fact-based and editorially independent platform, free of commercial or political bias.
- Support and foster career development by exploring skill development, aptitude, opportunities, mentoring, networking, as well as teaching, sharing and publishing.
- Ensure the site’s integrity by only obtaining non-partisan sponsorship from education, government and private partners. Any advertising will be relevant and non-obtrusive.
- Ensure quality, diverse and intelligible content reaches the widest possible audience by employing experienced editors to curate the site.
- Be open, transparent and accountable. Where errors occur correct them expeditiously.
- Work with our partners and our advisory board to ensure we are operating in the interests of the industry.
- Promote the value that technology should ultimately work for humans (not the other way around)
- Recognise that it is human to design, but a profession to be a designer; that everyone contains creativity and potential to bring good ideas into the world if fostered appropriately.
- Explain how design always has consequences, and carefully explore choices.
- Show that education and experience are interconnected: we all learn by doing, and improve by sharing.
- Recognise that a diverse community with a full and rich spectrum will always be better informed, more broadly skilled and more capable of tackling complex problems.
- Prioritise what we share by considering that work is not only about financial reward, it is also how we find value and leave a legacy.
- Demonstrate that the best way to test good ideas is to make them real and share them.
- Operate with the knowledge that real life is messy, joy is precious, things are better when shared, and a sense of humour goes a long way.
