You shouldn’t have to be a growth hacker to care about growing your product’s user base. Understanding growth is important for UX Designers too.
It is far, far easier to achieve sustainable, long term growth for a great product that solves problems for people than for a gimmicky product that doesn’t really work. However, even the best products can fail if you don’t pay attention to growth and use some smart tactics to get it in front of the right people.
So, how do we combine these things and build great products that grow?
— from whatusersknow.com
We need to figure out ways of combining UX with marketing, growth and conversion tactics so that we spread the right techniques for understanding users and solving problems to other areas of the company, without compromising our principles.
And that’s what this session is about.

Meet Laura Klein
Laura fell in love with technology when she saw her first user research session in 1995. Since then, she’s worked as an engineer, UX designer, and product manager at startups and large companies in Silicon Valley. Her popular design blog, Users Know, helps teams learn more about their users and apply that knowledge to build better products.
She is currently an advisor to several small startups and consults with companies that want to improve their research, UX, and product development processes.
She’s also the author of UX for Lean Startups and Build Better Products (Rosenfeld Media ’16).
How to Ask Your Questions
If you can’t make the live session but have questions, we’d love to collect them ahead of time and we’ll ask Laura on your behalf. You can submit your questions here. We’ll publish the responses (along with the full transcript) in the days following the session.
Here are a few question ideas to get you started:
- How would you describe the relationship between UX and growth/conversion? What do they have in common?
- What techniques can we use when we approach acquisition so that we don’t compromise our principles?
- What tools can you recommend to assist with an empathetic growth/conversion strategy?
How does Ask the UXperts work?
These sessions run for approximately an hour and best of all, they don’t cost a cent. We are trialling a new format for this session, using a dedicated public Slack channel. That means that there is no audio or video, but a full transcript will be posted up on here in the days following the session.
